Gage Valves
Safety ballcheck gage valves that isolate a glass level gage from the vessel and shut off automatically when the glass or a gasket fails.
Also known as: gage valve, gauge valve, ballcheck valve, safety ball check, level gauge valve, gauge cock, low emission API 624.

Brands
Jerguson (Clark-Reliance) has built liquid level instruments since 1905: reflex and transparent glass gages with safety ballcheck gage valves, Magnicator magnetic level indicators, level switches and transmitters. Established in the chemical, petrochemical and power industries.
Reliance Boiler Trim (Clark-Reliance) has built boiler level controls since 1884 and brought conductivity probes to the boiler industry in 1959: Simpliport bi-color gages, Eye-Hye SmartLevel remote level indication, prismatic and flat glass water gages, water columns, gage valves and Levalarm and TWIP level switches.

Gage valves isolate a glass level gage from the vessel for maintenance and, with a ballcheck, protect people and plant when the glass fails. Ritec supplies the Jerguson range: Series 140 integral bonnet, Series 60 and 60LE union bonnet, Series 70, 70BL/70XL and 86 bolted bonnet OS&Y, Series 90 jacketed valves and the 360 Series with bypass mode. For boiler water gages we supply Reliance bronze BG valves to 450 psi and forged steel SG600, SG700 and SG800 valves to 3000 psi.
Tell us the gage model, the vessel and gage connections, design pressure and temperature, the medium, and whether you need a set or a single top or bottom valve, and we return a selection.
Frequently asked questions
- What does the ballcheck in a gage valve do?
- A stainless steel ball sits upstream of the seat. If the gage glass or a gasket fails, the outflow pushes the ball onto its seat and shuts off the vessel automatically. The ball can be omitted on request.
- Why choose a union gage connection?
- A union gage connection lets a top and bottom connected gage be turned to any angle, and the gage can be removed without removing the valves or draining the vessel.
- How does the 360 Series avoid false level readings at commissioning?
- It has a bypass position. Liquid flows into the gage without seating the ballcheck, so the level in the glass matches the vessel. Afterwards both valves go to run position and the ballcheck protects the gage again.
