Level switches give a contact at a set liquid level for alarms, shutdowns and pump control. Ritec supplies the Jerguson range: external cage switches operated by float or displacer, side-mount JMRS reed switches and JMLS magnetic switches, top-mount displacer and float switches, and the SureTest option for testing the switch in place. For boilers and steam plants we add Reliance Levalarm low water cut-outs and alarms and TWIP turbine water induction protection.

Tell us the switch function and points, the medium and its specific gravity, design pressure and temperature, the process connection, and the contact rating and area classification, and we return a selection.

Frequently asked questions

How does the Jerguson Tri-Magnet switch work?
A magnet on the float or displacer rod turns a secondary magnet, which repels a third switch magnet to the opposite side and operates the contacts. Snap action comes from magnetic repulsion, without springs; the mechanism was endurance tested to over 850,000 cycles.
Which switch mechanism do I need?
General purpose 10 A mechanisms up to 480 °F (249 °C), high temperature 5 A to 750 °F (399 °C), hermetically sealed 5 A for contaminated atmospheres and intrinsically safe circuits, gold-plated 0.25 A for low power circuits, and encapsulated 5 A to 850 °F (454 °C).
Float or displacer?
Float switches sit in an external cage or mount horizontally in the vessel wall. Displacer switches hang a displacer from a spring and suit top mounting and multi-point alarm or pump control.
