Reliance Eye-Hye SmartLevel remote water level indication system

Conductivity probe boiler drum level system with patented probe condition monitoring: a blue light tells the control room when a blowdown is due; 6 to 24 probes, remote indicators up to one mile away, relay and 4-20 mA outputs, probes to 3000 psi (200 bar).

Eye-Hye indicators have shown boiler water level in control rooms since 1959, when Reliance brought conductivity probes to the boiler industry. Probes in a column beside the drum detect water or steam at fixed heights, and the control unit lights green for water and red for steam on the remote indicator.

Mineral build-up on the probes slowly makes them unreliable. The SmartLevel adds patented monitoring of each probe: when a probe needs cleaning, a blue light on the indicator tells the operator that a column blowdown is due. Blowdowns are then done when needed instead of on a fixed schedule, which reduces wear on probes and valves and keeps operators out of hazardous areas. The system also tells dirty probes from failed ones and pinpoints any failed module.

White lights mark the normal water level, so a deviation is visible at a glance, and a mode without red lights helps colour blind operators. Indicators need only a 4-wire circuit and can be placed up to a mile away, and existing Eye-Hye systems can be upgraded in a few hours using the same panel cutouts.
