BS&B Saf-t-Flap explosion isolation flap valve

Passive flap valve for inlet ducts of dust collectors, DN100 to DN1350: held open by the airflow, slammed shut and latched by the explosion pressure. No detection or control needed; combinable with venting and suppression.

The Saf-t-Flap protects the people upstream of a dust collector. Installed in the dirty-air inlet duct, its flap is held open by the normal extraction flow. When an explosion occurs in the collector, the reverse pressure wave slams the flap shut and a latch holds it closed, so flame and pressure cannot travel back along the duct to the machines and operators it serves.

It is a passive system, needing no detection or control, and it is routinely combined with explosion venting or suppression on the collector itself. Sizes reach DN1350, which covers the large extraction mains found in woodworking and bulk-handling plants. Options include a position switch for process interlocks and an inspection door for cleaning.

Selection data we need

Duct diameter, air velocity and flow, dust type and explosion data (Kst, Pmax), the reduced explosion pressure of the collector, and the installation distance from the collector inlet.
