BS&B Type B forward acting disk

The original solid metal forward acting rupture disk: 3 mm to DN1100 and burst pressures from 0.1 to 6900 bar. Simple, robust, for gas or liquid. Requires a vacuum support if vacuum can occur.

The Type B is the disk that started it all: a solid metal dome loaded in tension that bursts when the metal reaches its ultimate strength. It remains unbeatable in two areas. At extreme pressures, up to 6900 bar, no other disk technology applies. And at the extremes of size, from 3 mm bore up to DN1100, the B is often the only standard product.

A forward acting disk is limited to a 70 % operating ratio, needs a vacuum support whenever vacuum or back pressure can occur, and may fragment on bursting, so it should not be installed directly under a safety valve. Within those limits it is simple, inexpensive and available in every alloy. It mounts in the FA-7R Quick-Sert safety head.

Selection data we need

Size, burst pressure and temperature, operating pressure, vacuum or back pressure conditions, medium and flange rating.

Applications

  • Very high pressure protection, autoclaves and hydraulic systems
  • Very small and very large sizes outside the reverse buckling range
  • Simple relief on static-pressure systems
  • Secondary relief behind a safety valve
