A magnetic level indicator is only as reliable as its float magnet. The Magnicator float uses two 360° Alnico 8 ring magnets with their north poles facing each other. The opposing poles push the flux lines outwards into a concentrated field, which turns the flags, switches and transmitters with a certainty that weaker float designs do not reach, and without skipped flags.
Because the field is so strong, the chamber can be built heavy: Sch 40 is standard, with Sch 80 and Sch 160 for high pressure. Floats are fusion-welded without filler metal for a smooth, bead-free surface. The flags each carry a permanent ceramic magnet and attract their neighbours, which makes the indicator resistant to shock and vibration. The WF Series indicator is 1.5 inches wide.
For severe service there are oversized chambers with guide rods for dirty liquids, FlashProof chambers for boiling and flashing liquids, hermetically sealed indicators for offshore and cryogenic sites, and high pressure spherical floats.
On boilers an MLI can be used as an indirect remote water level indicator up to 900 WSP; it may not replace the code-required direct-reading gage glass.
