Reliance TWIP turbine water induction protection level switches

Conductivity probe water detectors that alarm and trip before water reaches a steam turbine: 1 to 6 probes per detector, voting logic trip circuits, pressures to 3000 psi (206 bar) and temperatures to 1100 °F (593 °C), for drain pots, heaters, deaerators and condensate tanks.

Water entering a steam turbine can cause catastrophic damage. Pump or valve failures, excessive condensation and flooding can let water build up quickly in drain pots, heaters, deaerators or steam lines. TWIP (Turbine Water Induction Protection) detects that water early and gives alarms and trips.

A water detector column holds one to six conductivity probes at chosen heights, and a control unit with plug-in relays responds to the probe signals. The optional voting logic trips only when two or three designated probes see water, which practically removes false trips from a single faulty probe or level control failure. Two trip probes can also be set at the same level so the trip point stays exact.

The detectors are rated for pressures up to 3000 psi or temperatures up to 1100 °F and are built in carbon steel, P22 or P91 chrome-moly or 316 stainless.

Selection data we need

Location and service (drain pot, heater, deaerator, condensate tank), design pressure and temperature, column material, number of probes with their functions and heights, voting logic, steam and water connections, junction box and insulation.

Applications

  • Turbine water induction protection on steam lines and drain pots
  • Feedwater heaters, deaerators and flash tanks
  • Condensate tanks
  • High level alarms and trips in steam plants
