Accessories for explosion vents: magnetically activated burst sensors (MBS) that signal a ruptured vent instantly, and vent deflectors that direct the pressure wave and flame upwards away from personnel.
Two accessories turn an explosion vent from a passive panel into part of the plant’s safety system.
Vent sensors give immediate indication that a vent has opened. The MBS is a magnetically activated sensor spot welded to the vent; when the panel ruptures and flow disrupts it, the contact changes state and the control system can stop fans, close isolation valves and raise the alarm. Intrinsically safe versions are available for ATEX zones, and the same sensor technology is used on rupture disks.
Vent deflectors are fitted to the outlet of flat and lightly domed vents to redirect the pressure wave and flame ball upwards, away from walkways, roads and neighbouring equipment. Because a deflector reduces the effective vent area, its use must be taken into account in the venting calculation, sometimes with additional vent panels. We do that calculation for you.
